Health and well-being are influenced by many different things, such as lifestyle, family health history, mental health, and nutrition/eating habits. At Simply Well Nutrition, we use a whole-body approach to nutrition, health, and wellness based on scientific evidence, while keeping things simple and realistic. We work with people that struggle with a variety of health challenges such as weight loss, low energy, high blood pressure, gut health, diabete, cholesterol, and more. If you have a specific health issue that is not within my scope of practice, I will let you know during the discovery call. To help you reach your goals, we will take a deep dive into all aspects of your lifestyle like sleeping habits and stress, not just diet and exercise. We will work together to find the root cause and find the best way for you to enjoy the foods and lifestyle activities you enjoy in a more healthful and balanced way to achieve optimal health.
Working with me, you will learn different tips and tricks on how to prepare easy and delicious nutrient-dense foods that will fuel and nourish your body to help it perform at its best, while still being able to enjoy your favorite foods without the guilt. Sometimes it is not about eliminating foods that are deemed as "bad", but it's about ADDING other nutritious components to those foods that you already love to create a balanced meal that consists of healthy fats, protein, and carbohydrates. For example, instead of having a bagel with just cream cheese that has very little nutrients and will leave you hungry in an hour, you can turn it into a wholesome meal by adding a few extra ingredients. I like adding avocado for some healthy fats, a protein source like eggs or smoked salmon, and spinach or any other greens for some added fiber and vitamins.
My main goal for my clients is to work with their current lifestyle and make it better! I want you to feel good and ENJOY what you're eating, what you're feeding to your family, and the habits you're creating. By the time we are done working together, you will feel confident in the food and health choices that you make with the information that I will provide to you along the way. Hello there! Thank you for taking the time to visit Simply Well Nutrition. My name is Jenny Shepherd and I am a Nutritionist based in York, PA. I have an MS in Nutrition and Integrative Health with a concentration in Human Clinical Nutrition from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH). During my time at MUIH, I've gained clinical experience and deepened my knowledge of how best to support clients through diet, lifestyle, and supplementation to take control of their health again. My approach to nutrition care is evidence-based, and my true passion lies in finding the root cause and treatment of health conditions through nutrition, and showing clients how eating healthy does not have to be complicated and boring.
Just a little background on my health journey and how I got here. I didn't always have the best relationship with food. My focus was in the wrong direction because I cared too much about what foods I needed to stay away from to lose/maintain my weight instead of how it made me feel. I've tried everything under the sun to lose weight, from fad diets to counting every morsel of my food. I obsessed and analyzed everything that I ate, and eventually, this led to an eating disorder. It took a lot of time and effort for me to learn to appreciate my body and what it’s capable of. I realized that being healthy is not about following a strict diet or hitting my goal weight, it’s about listening to my body and treating myself with compassion. Now, my idea of healthy means nourishing my body with foods that will help it thrive and allowing myself to enjoy foods that I love like ice cream, pizza, or a warm donut every now and then without the guilt. I hope to open your eyes to a variety of new options, full of essential nutrients, without totally eliminating your favorite foods.
When I'm not working, I love to meal prep, create recipes, and cook/make a mess with my two-year-old toddler. I also enjoy decorating and cleaning my house, spending time with friends and family, and snuggling up on the sofa with the hubby with a yummy bowl of ice cream while watching a good movie or a cooking show.
